Although I have never had really bad acne, I do still get a few spots around my period. They tend to be the big ugly, right in the middle of my cheek type of spots which show up in every photo I see of myself. Underneath the monthly spots, I have dull skin with a few signs of acne scarring and unevenness. Overall, just not my ideal skin. Seven months ago, when on holiday, I had a bit of a skincare breakdown, after another spot appeared around my mouth and I decided to bin my self made skincare routine and found Dermatica.
After filling out their questionnaire about my skincare concerns, a week later two small bottles arrived in the post. One is a morning Vitamin C treatment and the other is a night time Niacinamide treatment.
What is it?
Dermatica is an online personalised skincare subscription. They are dermatologists who work with you to decide a personalised treatment plan. Whether you suffer with acne, or hyperpigmentation or just have dull skin, they analyse your goals and your skin to suggest a skincare routine.
Their core product is their treatment plans, but they also offer face washes and moisturisers. I personally decided to just get the morning Vitamin C and evening treatment plan.
How much does it cost?
After the introductory offer of 85% off for the first month (meaning the prescription only costs £2.80!), my plan comes to around £40 a month. Although it should be said that I don’t get it religiously each month, sometimes my bottles last me 6-8 weeks so I push back my next delivery date.
If I am ever in the sun or swimming pool then I tend to not use my prescriptions, out of fear of the actives reacting badly to the UV light and burning my skin. Some months I might use more of the product, for example if I go to the gym more so shower off my morning skincare.
Does it work?
I have been using my plan for 7-8 months now and I do think it has helped my skin. I no longer get big spots that make me feel uncomfortable and my skin feels a lot glowier in the morning. I would like to see more improvement on my clogged pores, but ultimately I asked for a fix for my acne and I got it. I will definitely keep using the treatments for the next few months to see if there is any further improvement
Final Thoughts?
Ultimately, I like Dermatica.
They analyse photos of your face to provide personalised skincare treatments that worked for me. Not only is the product good, but it is so easy. Putting on one pump of a skincare treatment at night before moisturiser simplified my whole skincare routine. I trust that the dermatologists know what they are doing, so it took the stress away from me having to research and find new skincare products. The bottles are very easy to travel with and somewhat cost effective.
Maybe, if I invested the time into researching other active ingredients and trying out different brands, I could probably find a more effective skincare routine. But the whole point is that I don’t want to. Dermatica makes it easy for me and that is why I like it. Give it a go, maybe it will work for you too.
